If you haven’t done it before, learning to knit lace takes some time, concentration, and practice. But it is a skill that can be mastered by most knitters, so don’t let the complex-looking results scare you off. Building with Lace is a carefully designed sequence of patterns that introduces knitters to lace work starting with the basics and working towards more difficult patterns, resulting in a beautiful lace shawl with beads. Skills you will learn:
- How to read a lace chart (and compare to text instructions)
- How to work lace increases and decreases (yo, k2tog, ssk, sl1-k2tog-psso)
- Choosing the correct needles and yarn for lace knitting
- Troubleshooting and problem solving in lace knitting
We are offering the latest series by our favorite skill building guru, Michelle Hunter of Knit Purl Hunter. Like her previous series, Building Blocks and Building in Color, you will learn lace techniques one section at a time, at your own pace.Skill Level: | Advanced beginner |
Requirements: | Must know how to knit and purl. The shawl starts with a provisional cast on (we can go over that if needed). Some experience with yarn overs, knit 2 together and slip-slip-knit is helpful but not required. |
